Business Development Representative, Part Time
Find and close custom AI application work with commercial clients: document processing, workflow automation, knowledge assistants and computer vision, sold as fixed-price projects.
What you would do
- Work the inbound pipeline: read each project brief, qualify it by email or a short call, and get the prospect to the point where a proposal can be written.
- Run a small, personal outbound effort to commercial companies with a document, workflow or inspection process worth automating, about ten hours a week, with no bulk sending and no purchased lists.
- Carry a proposal from sent to signed: answer questions, bring in the principal engineer for the technical conversation, and keep the next step written down.
- Keep the pipeline honest in the admin queue: status, next action, and what the prospect actually said.
What we screen for
The screening exercise measures exactly these three things.
- Services selling, not product selling. You have sold a project or an engagement to an operations or technology buyer and can describe how the deal moved.
- Writing a first email a busy buyer answers: specific to their business, short, with one clear ask.
- Qualification and candor. You can say a lead is a poor fit, and you can explain why to the owner and to the prospect.
Requirements
- Two or more years selling business services, consulting, software implementation or custom development to businesses, with examples you can show.
- Comfortable working for a two-person company on a retainer-plus-commission basis, with the retainer and the commission schedule stated in a written agreement before the first day.
- Based in the United States.
Not assessed
- A technical background. The principal engineer joins every technical conversation; you need to understand what the applications do, not how they are built.
